Pocket Camcorder Technology Developments

Only good things can be said about most pocket camcoders. These small wonders have been designed to fit the average pocket, come on at blazing speeds and shoot top quality video and images as well. There are many big and smaller name brands that make pocket camcorders, so they are affordable for everyone. These include Cisco’s Flip Video brand, the Sony Bloggie, Kodak’s Zi8 and Sanyo camcorders among others. Many pocket camcorders have evolved and developed to incorporate the many features of standard camcorders, while still maintaining their smaller pocket friendly size.

Overall, the technology and advancements that have been made in the pocket camcorder are unique.  However, much of the development came from software and tried-and-tested functions from other devices, including digital still cameras and traditional camcorders. So what developments have taken place since the first introduction of pocket camcorders?

The first is HD video recording.  Although the original Flip Video, which was the first pocket camcorder available, could only shoot VGA or DVD quality video, the pocket camcorder has allowed for the evolution of HD video on smaller devices. The growth of the HD video market was fueled mainly by the pocket camcorder and compact camcorders. As a knock on effect, it’s now common to find HD video recording capabilities on most cameras and camcorders.

Online sharing is a big plus for consumers, as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, among other websites, have grown in popularity. So now most pocket camcorders come with this feature built in.  The feature of online sharing has actually been refined since it was first introduced on the pocket camcorder with many phones, cameras and other electronics now incorporating the one-touch-sharing access that many pocket camcorders use already.

The size of most pocket camcorders is amazing to many, and their handiness makes it possible for them to be used in almost any setting. It took a long time to go from the concept of a pocket camcorder to its introduction, owing to design and technology restrictions.  But the success of the pocket camcorder has spawned a new range and interest in pocket-friendly gadgets and electronics. The Flip Video introduced this concept and many manufacturers now run with a smaller size for many devices.

Though these are small developments in the tech world, pocket camcorders have had real influence in the electronics industry influencing everything from HDTVs to cell phones and even hair dryers. There are major changes still to come but one thing is certain, pocket camcorders are definitely on the cutting edge of electronics.
